ClearType changed my life

Troy wrote about ClearType last week, and I have been trying it out on my laptop (ClearType is recommended for LCD laptop and flat screens).

It takes a bit of getting used to. Frankly, I'm not used to things looking so good on a computer. It looks weird, because it's so much higher-quality than what I'm used to.

After a few hours though, my eyes really start to appreciate it. Reading browser documents is much easier on the eyes (until I tried ClearType, I generally preferred to print long documents for less eye-strain). I tested ClearType with Mozilla, Word, Visio, Opera and Acrobat. Except for Acrobat (which probably has anti-aliasing built-in), ClearType vastly improves readability with all of them.

I highly recommend using the ClearType tuner to enable ClearType, and fine-tune it to your display and personal preferences. Without the tuner, ClearType was not very ... clear on my display. There's also a lot of interesting stuff on the Microsoft ClearType Web site.
