I stayed in the Armpit of America
We got to our first stop around 12:30am this morning. Well, it was 11:30pm PDT, so yesterday, actually. We were going to stay in Winnemucca, NV, but decided instead (due to delays with the motor home) to find a closer location.
Battle Mountain, Nevada has as it's claim to fame the nomination by the Washington Post as the Armpit of America. I don't know what to make of that. I guess they'd sooner be known for something embarrassing, than not be known at all.
We got the last room at the hotel, which was a bit unexpected. Apparently there is a big race this weekend in the Armpit. This was easy to see with all of the cars decked out with racing pariphernalia in the hotel parking lot. I couldn't figure out the Audi with a racing number on it, though. Most of the race cars I saw were Corvettes.
Verizon 1xRTT lasted until just before Battle Mountain. I haven't been able to get anything but analog service, if I get any service, since then. This must be some desolate area.
We're headed to Winnemucca this morning, then to Klamath Falls, Oregon by tonight if the motor home keeps running.
