My project is in the news
Deseret News reports on the project we call GL3. The project upgrades the network from a T1/DS3-based edge and backbone to GigE everywhere, covering ten colleges and universities, around 20 district offices, and nearly 200 secondary and primary schools. As far as I know, this is the largest project of it's kind in the United States, and the largest project UEN has undertaken in at least a decade.
I'm the engineering lead on the project. I feel a huge burden on my shoulders to see it through to a phenomenal success. As cool as it is to see it in the newspaper, it only makes me feel more pressure.

Some momentum for an exchange in Utah
I presented at Phil Windley's CTO Breakfast about why I think we've finally reached a point where we can achieve critical mass for an exchange point in Utah.
This was an opportunity to meet with some local business leaders as a follow-on to conversations I've had with some of the major Internet bandwidth purchasers in Utah, about coordinating our efforts to create momentum for an exchange point in Utah. The slides I presented at the meeting are online.
I've talked about this on several occassions in this blog in the past. 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9
Phil wrote an excellent summary of the meeting and next steps in his blog.
I look forward to where this discussion and exploration will go.
